  Session News Minimize

April 2018

Session started the year off with a retreat, with Pastor Kevin leading a study about church leaders, more specifically, elders.  Also, invited to address the session was the Woodland Police Dept.  They spoke about church security and offered advice.  The Stewardship committee is responding and working on this.  Session voted to upgrade the surveillance system.  Also, you might have noticed all exterior doors, except the front doors, are locked once worship begins.  There have NOT been any threats or worry on the part of session, but this is more a precaution to the society we live in.

A joyful part of the February meetings was to meet and vote into membership, while hearing testimony, of new members Rick and Janet Benney, Jean Eddy, Bob and Bette Krueger, and Gary and LaVerna Ruckman.  The EPC requires its churches to review its membership list once a year, and this was done in February.  I would hope that if you notice you haven’t seen someone for a while that you might reach out to them and see how they are doing.

Upcoming plans for the session include CPR training and acting on the church vitality weekend.  Hopefully, everyone is preaching The Simple Uncluttered Gospel to themselves daily and praying about inviting an unchurched person/couple to dinner in April.  Session will discuss the vitality weekend and how we want to go forward in its April meeting.

Session is thankful for Gary Oyer as he audited the financial workings of the church.  Sally Hager is working to try and present the financial health of the church monthly in The Happenings.  Often the tithes and offerings aren’t covering monthly expenses, but the church also has rental income and income from the Kelland estate that ensure the bills get paid.

The Christian Education committee is planning for VBS this summer already.  They would love volunteers, and I hope you would consider inviting some youth when the time comes.

Session meetings are open to visitors if you ever wonder what goes on.  The same goes for the committees.  I’m sure they would love another volunteer on the committee if there is an area of the church you would like to help with.  I hope you pray for the church leaders as they discern God’s will for our congregation.

~ Doug Ferguson, Clerk of Session
